The Melody of Giving Back at Sindthorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok
Supporting and engaging with the local community is a core policy at Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok. The hotel has implemented the Music for The Melody of Giving Back project to lend a helping hand to disabled musicians.
Working with the Autistic Thai Foundation and the Foundation for the Blind in Thailand, every Wednesday afternoon two talented special needs pianists perform at the Lobby. A donation of THB 100 from each Afternoon Tea set sold, topped with another THB 100 from the hotel, is made to the foundations.
The Autistic Foundation is the first social enterprise set up to help autistic children by offering treatment, rehabilitation and education opportunities. The Foundation for the Blind in Thailand under the Royal Patronage of HM the Queen, meanwhile, offers support to the blind in their daily lives.
Jet Visetnut (Kong) may be autistic but this has not stopped him from achieving his goals. A pianist, xylophonist and artist, he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Bangkok Thonburi University. A member of the Arun Chandra Band, he has performed with the band and solo at various venues. Enjoy Jet’s piano skills in the Lobby every Wednesday from 14:00 to 15:00
He is followed by Ubonwan Piakaew (Pang). This graduate of Mahidol University’s College of Music is also a pianist, xylophonist and artist. Although blind, she has excelled in many areas and has several awards under her belt, including a gold medal for her performance at the primary level in the 4th Juvenile Contest organised by Mahidol’s College of Music; third prize for song composition by the Office of the National Culture Commission; and runner-up in the AMEB Piano Festival and Competition 2001. She has also performed in a concert by the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music and at the Discovery of the Emerging Stars talent competition. She tinkles the ivories from 15:00 to 17:00 every Wednesday.
Afternoon tea at Sindhorn Kempinski’s award-winning Lobby has become a ritual for Bangkok society. Now you can enjoy an afternoon delight, from 14:00 – 17:00, while contributing to a worthy cause. The programme runs until next year.
